SACRAMENTO, CA - The California Applicants’ Attorneys Association (CAAA), whose members represent Californians injured on the job, will convene several hundred workers’ compensation professionals, the overwhelming majority advocates for Californians injured on the job, in Reno June 26 – 29.  “Our Summer Convention will address the avalanche of medical treatment denials – an estimated 3,500,000 each year – that prevent Californians injured doing their jobs from healing and returning to work,” said CAAA President Jim Butler. “CAAA will also continue our campaign to identify and address biases against women’s workplace injuries.” California Nurses’ Association Co-President Deborah Berger, R.N., will participate in a panel on “Gender Equity in Workers’ Compensation Law,” Friday afternoon. The panel continues CAAA’s Women’s Caucus Committee’s campaign to identify and correct gender bias and increasing risk of injury to working women due to the nature of the work they perform and failures of the system to prevent and address their injuries. WCAB Commissioner Marguerite Sweeney will address the most important cases of 2014.
