LAS VEGAS, NV - The California Applicants’ Attorneys Association (CAAA), whose members represent Californians injured on the job, will convene more than 1,000 workers’ compensation professionals, and advocates for Californians injured on the job, in Las Vegas for four days, beginning Wednesday, June 26. “Our Summer Convention will examine how to best advocate for injured workers under the new SB 863, and will include the entire Saturday morning on how to navigate the new rules involving Utilization Review and the new Independent Medical Review process,” said CAAA President Larry Stern. “CAAA is dedicated to ensuring injured workers get the promised increased compensation for their permanent disabilities and prompt approval of necessary medical care.”
Stern announced the release of a free podcast updating important decisions regarding Almaraz/Guzman and the ability to capture some percentage of an injured worker’s lost future earnings due to permanent disability from a work injury. CAAA Past President Adam Dombchik and former Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) Judge Ray Correio are featured in the podcast, which is available here.
The leader of the Nevada Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union, Geoconda Arguello-Kline, will address the convention on Friday. Members of Warehouse Workers’ United from Ontario, who are striking against Wal-Mart, will join the convention to appeal for support in their fight for collective bargaining rights.
