“California’s two previous Governors created a delay-infected workers’ compensation system that ranks last in delivering timely medical care. As a result, injured workers whose care is delayed have a 40% higher rate of permanent disability.
“When the COVID-19 pandemic hit California, workers’ compensation COVID claims from exposed essential workers in health care and food supply skyrocketed, reaching 43,879 in December alone.
“Fortunately, Governor Newsom’s foresight led him to use his power well in advance to remove barriers, speed those claims and provide a lifeline to essential workers.
“Today, COVID workers’ compensation claims have fallen to 1/10th of what they were in December. Governor Newsom’s pandemic response saved lives.”
