CAAA leaders have been meeting with the Democratic candidates for Governor. So far, State Treasurer John Chiang and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa have spent several hours with us discussing the administration of Workers' Compensation. The untimely death of San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee required Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom to reschedule our meeting with him for early January.
And CAAA's political efforts to elect labor leader, Maria Elena Durazo to the State Senate and Senator Ricardo Lara as the new Insurance Commissioner are paying off...right now neither of them has drawn a significant opponent.
CAAA's legislative program will make January a very busy month... our legislation to cover day laborers under Workers' Compensation; our new proposal to ban Trump ICE Agents from the Boards; and launching our major new educational effort to teach women their rights under Comp when they are sexually harassed in the workplace.
Finally, three of CAAA's committees - our Labor Committee, Women's Caucus, and Latino Issues Committee - are taking responsibility for educating selected legislators about CT injuries. While President Jason Marcus and Legislative Advocate Alberto Torrico have taken positive steps forward in building better relationships with key public sector union leaders aimed at protecting CT claims.
We remain forever vigilant.
