Governor Jerry Brown's final rush of appointments to work comp boards and commissions were somewhat of a mixed bag.
On the plus side, Christine Bouma and Doug Bloch were reappointed to the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC) as labor representatives, a win for workers over the next few years.
What's not so clear is how the former Governor's Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) dealings will shake out.
After leaving the WCAB shorthanded for nearly his entire term, Brown finally filled the last vacancy with an insurance company lawyer. Given Brown's eight-year record, it's not surprising. While this may not be exactly what CAAA had hoped for, we're cautiously optimistic.
Here's hoping a new WCAB and new administration bring about more positive actions in favor of protecting injured workers.
